Guards protect street lights

METAL guards will be installed over the street lights at the Hampton Park Community House in a bid to reduce vandalism attacks.
Community House manager Jackie Bourke said the guards would hopefully work to vandal proof the two straight pole lights in the reserve walkway which she said suffer constant damage.
Ms Bourke said staff were often left in the dark when walking to their cars at night and wanted the lights protected as a safety measure.
“This has been an ongoing problem for us for a number of years.
“Council has tried to install several different types of lights but they still keep getting smashed,” she said.
Ms Bourke originally called on the Casey Council to increase the lighting around the community house but said she was satisfied with its final decision.
“Council did a check to see whether the current lighting situation is adequate and think at this stage the metal guards are what’s required in the area.
“It is a good outcome and I am happy that we will have improved safety and security at the house,” she said.
A report presented at last week’s council meeting stated that Casey would also undertake minor pruning around the community house to increase the coverage of the existing lights and establish a procedure for reporting lights that require maintenance.
