Classwork crosses the generations

GRANDPARENTS got a chance to go back to primary school and relive their childhood memories.
They were invited down to Courtenay Gardens Primary School on Grandparents Day last Friday to see their grandchildren in action.
Prep teacher Lauren Van Rooyen said the day was about helping students’ understanding of their grandparents’ role in the community and within their family.
When they first arrived in the classrooms, they were able to see for the first time a live television broadcast from the Cranbourne school’s multimedia studio.
“The highlight of the day was the TV show with teacher David Hess who had just become a grandfather and was talking about what it was like to be a grandparent,” Ms Van Rooyen said.
“They were laughing and nodding in agreement.”
The grandparents watched on activities, with each class making different items.
They spent about an hour in the classroom before being treated to a performance from the school’s newly formed choir, run by new music teacher Nick Bake, and an afternoon tea of hot cross buns and coffee.
Ms Van Rooyen said it had been a great day, with one of her prep students Liam bringing in both sets of grandparents.
