Revhead rumble

By Alison Noonan
CRANBOURNE was alive with the roar of engines as thousands of revheads flocked to Lawson Poole Reserve on Saturday for the annual Cranbourne Car and Bike Show.
More than 15,000 people enjoyed perfect weather to view the 500 classic cars and 200 motorbikes on display.
The crowds were entertained by a live band, swap meet, trade alley, car boot sale and loads of children’s entertainment.
Organiser Greg Kaye said he was delighted by the enormous turnout despite having to compete with another car show on the same day in Avalon.
“We had 15,000 people there, which is half of Cranbourne’s population so that is a pretty good feeder,” he said.
“Everybody had a great time and the weather was magic. We couldn’t have asked for a better day.
“We had people travel far and wide to come and display their cars and everyone was very impressed.
“The car clubs brought lots more members with them than last year and we kept hearing ‘this is a great day’.”
Mr Kaye said the organising committee was already looking forward to next year’s event.
“We will set a date for next year’s show next week.
“It is just great to see that you’ve created something that so many people have enjoyed.
“To see the place empty in the morning then chock-a-block full in the afternoon is just unbelievable,” he said.
Casey councillor Steve Beardon congratulated the organisers on a ‘bonza’ day.
“What a party to celebrate Cranbourne.
“Well done to the organising committee, the Uniting Church, Phil Sealy and the VCAL kids, sponsors and the great Paul ‘The Rev’ Creasey for starting this event all those years ago.
“Here’s to next year’s event at Casey Fields,” he said.
