Police advise caution during holiday travels

EXTREME temperatures forecast for Australia Day have prompted a police warning to drivers to stay alert on the road.
With the mercury expected to top 40 degrees today (Thursday), police have pleaded with motorists to concentrate and remain patient during the break.
Police said inattention and driver fatigue, combined with hot weather and changing road conditions, were a major concern.
Acting Assistant Commissioner Peter Billing said increased traffic, heat, the threat of bushfires and booze buses could lead to delays in travel.“As this is the last holiday break before a return to school for the kids, we realise that families will want to savour that last trip away,” he said. “This also means an increase in traffic.
“Plan your trip well and maintain your focus on the road,” Mr Billing said.
“Allow plenty of time for your trips so as to avoid frustration if there are unforeseen delays.”
