HOLT MP Anthony Byrne has called on the Federal Government to extend opening hours at Cranbourne’s Medicare office.
In the most recent sitting of Parliament, Mr Byrne asked that operating hours be extended to Thursday evenings and Saturday mornings.
“It’s not fair that families in Cranbourne don’t have their local Medicare office open on Thursday evenings and Saturday mornings, when all other offices in this region are open,” Mr Byrne said.
He said Cranbourne families had to travel to Frankston, Fountain Gate or Dandenong to access a Medicare office open at those times.
The Cranbourne Medicare office was opened in March 2005, after 10 years of lobbying by the local community.
Dandenong, Fountain Gate and Frankston Medicare offices are open until 7pm on Thursdays and from 9am to 12.30pm on Saturdays.
The Cranbourne office is open 9am to 5pm Monday to Friday.
