Moneghetti shares his secrets with like-minded clubs

CHAMPION marathon runner Steve Moneghetti was out in Casey recently to talk about the value of sporting clubs in the community.
The Casey Sports Forum was hosted by the City of Casey recently along with 50 sports volunteers representing 33 local clubs.
Mr Moneghetti shared his experience of the benefits of the club environment and the role which grassroots sports played in fostering elite sports opportunities and careers.
He said it was the people who were part of the club that kept sports players connected and motivated.
Casey mayor Colin Butler said the forum was the first of its type within the City of Casey, and a rare opportunity to bring local sporting clubs together to discuss sport, share ideas and network with other club volunteers.
Participants discussed topics such as risk management, club support, club development and access for all abilities, as well as their clubs’ needs.
Cr Butler also launched the City of Casey Access for All Planner, designed to assist clubs in increasing participation and membership for people with a disability.
“A number of clubs are making great progress towards making their sport or club more accessible to people of all ages and abilities,” he said.
“There are a range of initiatives that clubs can explore and assistance is available to continue this important work which will benefit the club and the wider community.”
Any club wanting to discuss issues such as needing assistance to strategic planning and fundraising can contact Casey council sports development officer Melanie Timney on 9705 5200.
