Narrowing down life choices

YEAR nine students at Cranbourne Secondary College took a glimpse at their future careers during a day devoted to exploring their possible life choices.
Students were presented with a range of careers when parents, local businesses, Rotary members, further education and services donated their time last Friday.
Project officer at the school Debbie Nobbs said the day had been a huge success with 40 presenters talking about 32 different career pathways.
“The aims of the day were to both provide clear pathways for the students but also to try and inspire them about other careers they might not have thought of,” Ms Nobbs said.
“It was fantastic. The kids had a great day and have said they would like more of it.”
The day, organised by teachers Paul Evans and George Mercer, kicked off with a presentation on perseverance and goal setting by radio presenter and comedian Declan Fay.
Representatives from the various industries included nursing, automotive, pipe lining, a fitter and turner, the fire brigade and police were at the event.
Presenters also included Holt MP Anthony Byrne, Cranbourne MP Jude Perera and Casey councillors Steve Beardon and Michael Farley.
Ms Nobbs said they would try to get presenters from careers that the students had requested, with a psychologist coming out in the next couple of weeks.
