THE birds were dangerous in Hitchcock’s thriller and they also pose a threat around Casey.
Council officials have received a high number of complaints in relation to swooping magpies that are causing all sorts of problems for residents.
Signs have been erected in several of Casey’s parks and reserves in an attempt to warn residents of the risk posed by the black and white birds.
Casey mayor Kevin Bradford said residents could contact the council’s environmental health team and have a warning sign placed in zones prone to swooping birds.
“Residents need to take measures to protect themselves, such as looking out for the birds, avoiding swoop areas, wearing a hat and staying calm,” Cr Bradford said.
He said that the removal of birds from their natural habitat was not considered a suitable outcome and all native birds were protected under a wildlife act.
Anyone who has concerns about a particular area in Casey can contact the environmental health team on 9705 5200.
