Students waltz through VCE

DANCING is taking off at Cranbourne Secondary College with students choosing the subject as a popular form of expression.
The dance program has been running at the school for a number of years, with VCE dance students being accepted to some of the top audition-based specialist dance schools in the state.
On Tuesday, dance students from years nine to 12 showcased what they had learnt during the year to appreciative students and teachers.
Head of performing arts Simone Donald said the audience response had been really positive.
“The dance program is really starting to grow and expand,” Ms Donald said.
The program is offered from year 10, with the option to study dance as a VCE subject.
In VCE, students perform ensemble and solo pieces, one of which is teacher taught and at least one which they must devise themselves.
A group of year nine students taking part in a Create program also performed on the day.
Cranbourne Secondary College dance teacher Annette Evans said she and the other dance teacher were focused on giving the dance program a higher profile.
“We are really hoping to introduce more performances,” Ms Evans said.
“There are so many talented kids at the school.”
