Fresh approach set to pay off

FRESH produce will bring funds back into the heart of the community as the second farmers’ market in Casey approaches.
By buying locally produced food at the Pearcedale Farmers’ Market, people will be investing in their local farmers and the community, with all funds raised going towards community projects.
Casey mayor Colin Butler said he was enthusiastic about seeing a local market service the coastal villages, Pearcedale and surrounds.
“Casey has a vibrant farming community and the idea of starting another farmers’ market in Casey came from a local grower working with the Pearcedale Community Centre Committee, who then approached council for support.
“Similar to the Casey Farmers’ Market which is held at the Old Cheese Factory in Berwick, the Pearcedale Farmers’ Market will offer a range of fresh produce and products directly from growers and suppliers.
“It will also enable interaction between the community and the people behind the food, such as farmers and food producers, and customers will be able to find out tips and tricks on storing and using the food.”
The market will be held on Saturday, 20 October from 8am to 1pm at the Pearcedale Community Centre. It will run on the third Saturday of each month.
Local community groups, schools and individuals can get involved.
For information contact Pam McClean of the Pearcedale Community Centre on 5978 6263.
Farmers who wish to get involved should contact Shona Crawford on 5978 6620.
