Call for bus stop improvements

BUS stops along two Cranbourne roads need to be improved for the safety of passengers, according to Liberal candidate for Narre Warren South Michael Shepherdson.
Mr Shepherdson has accused the Bracks Government of failing to install bus shelters and appropriate bus bays along Narre Warren-Cranbourne Road and Thompsons Road.
He said the locations of the bus bays were putting commuters at risk.
“There are a number of bus stops along Narre Warren-Cranbourne Road and Thompsons Road where bus users have to stand literally metres from a single-lane road that carries tens of thousands of motor vehicles,” Mr Shepherdson said.
“I have been approached by many people who fear for their safety when they use these bus stops.”
Mr Shepherdson said Narre Warren-Cranbourne and Thompsons roads were two of the busiest roads in Casey, carrying more than 20,000 vehicles on each road every day.
He said at the moment, passengers had to stand within two metres of the busy roads.
“With the dangerous situation that passengers face, and the need to promote public transport, the Bracks Government should install more appropriate bus bays and shelters, for the safety of passengers,” Mr Shepherdson said.
