Blooming good idea

FLOWER power is set to hit Cranbourne.
Councillors at Tuesday night’s Casey Council meeting agreed to allocate $40,000 from surplus funds in the 200506 budget for the design and construction of a floral clock at the front of the Old Shire Offices in Sladen Street.
Mayfield Ward councillor Kevin Bradford came up with the idea for the feature in a bid to add to the uniqueness and history of the area.
“This is a great idea for Cranbourne.
“I am hoping it will be another draw card to the area and add a unique aspect that will ease the apparent inequities between the north and south of Casey,” he said.
However the decision to use leftover council money to fund the project was not made lightly, with councillors resolving at a meeting on 2 August to investigate whether surplus funds were actually available in the budget.
Cr Bradford said he was pleased that councillors agreed to use the surplus funds for the feature, the costs of which had not been finalised.
“It may not even come to $40,000. But it will certainly add to the beauty of the area and be a real talking point in Cranbourne,” he said.
