Swing high sweet charity

By Alison Noonan
CRANBOURNE’S St Vincent de Paul Society is calling for locals to tee off at its inaugural charity golf day.
Members of St Agatha’s Conference say they are in desperate need of more players to support the fundraising event at Amstel Golf Club on Monday, 3 April.
Bernadette Weiss said organisers had generated a plethora of local sponsors but were short of golfers to compete in the Ambrose event.
“St Vincent de Paul is constantly asked to help in providing emergency assistance and we run on donations to survive,” she said.
“This golf day will be vital for us to continue to help those in need.
“A number of local businesses have come on board with donations for the auction at the golf day, including an autographed hat provided to us from Greg Norman.”
Ms Weiss said St Agatha’s Conference assisted 518 families in Cranbourne and made 1500 visits last year to supply food, clothing, medicine and household items.
“We have had one third more people calling in for assistance than the same time last year.
“With the increased population comes an increased demand on resources. But our resources have not increased.
“We have already had to cut down a little on our handouts this year so an injection of additional funds would be marvellous,” she said.
Ms Weiss said the golf day included green fees, lunch pack, three course meal and auction.
“It should be an enjoyable day for a good cause,” she said.
Registrations for the St Vincent de Paul charity golf day can be made by contacting Libby on 5996 0169 or entry forms are available at St Agatha’s Parish Office, St Vincent de Paul shop or the piety stall in St Agatha’s Church.
