Heritage managers get funds support

CRANBOURNE’S heritage custodians are encouraged to apply for State Government grants.
Managers of heritage assets can apply for $1.3 million in heritage grants, the first round in a $2.5 million-a-year grant program announced by the Minister for Planning Rob Hulls.
“Much of Victoria’s valued heritage is managed by individuals and community-based organisations,” Mr Hulls said.
“Without these passionate custodians, many of our precious places, collections and stories would be lost.”
Cranbourne MP Jude Perera welcomed the call for grant applications and encouraged community groups and individuals to apply. “This $1.3 million will support the individuals and groups who care for the electorate of Cranbourne’s heritage assets and provide them with good, sound, practical assistance to ensure they are well equipped to continue their important work,” Mr Perera said.
The funding will go towards repairing and conserving places and objects, the interpretation of heritage places and objects through plaques, trails and exhibitions, to local councils to provide independent expert advice to heritage property owners and managers and for studies to identify, assess and document local heritage places.
Grant application packs for the first round are available from Heritage Victoria, phone 9637 9475, or heritage .grants@dse.vic.gov.au.
Applications close on Monday, 4 September.
