VISITORS to the Cardinia Ranges Farmers’ Market at the Pakenham Racecourse on Saturday, 11 February will discover several new products on offer.
Greenthumbs will be pleased to discover that local grower Jan Lochlin from JB Nursery has joined the market, selling a range of potted herbs and vegetable seedlings including many soughtafter heirloom varieties.
While Jan is not certified organic, she does grow her plants using organic principles and those establishing a vegetable garden should come and see her wonderful selection of plants including hardtofind items like salsify. New to the market this month is Carlei Green Vineyards from Upper Beaconsfield who will be tempting wine buffs with a delicious range of drops including pinot gris, pinot noir and shiraz.
Cardinia corn growers, John and Pam Hobson, have added baby corn to their delicious range, an essential ingredient for an Asian stirfry.
Trevor and Linda Sell are back this month with wonderful plums from their orchard in Nar Nar Goon, including seriously tasty blood plums.
The clever team who brought Robbins Worcestershire Sauce has added another popular favourite to the range sweet curried cucumber pickles, delicious when served on crackers with Tarago River’s brie.
The farmers’ market stone fruit guru, Len Rayner promises to delight customers with his clingstone peaches the perfect fruit for bottling.
Len will also have fresh ‘pluots’ available in February, which are a cross between an apricot and plum.
In all, there will be about 40 stallholders selling homebaked cookies, fresh mushrooms, olive oil, farmhouse cheeses, sour dough bread, local apple juice, organic pasta sauces and much more.
Cardinia Farmers’ Market at Pakenham Racecourse, Pakenham, is open from 8am to noon.
