Casey parks get an upgrade

Two parks in Casey are set for upgrades thanks to funding from the State Government.

Casey Safety Village in Cranbourne East and Bayview Park in Narre Warren are among the 41 parks across Melbourne that have received a slice of the State Government’s Parks Revitalisation Grants Program pie.

The government has allocated $300,000 to Bayview Park, and $70,720 to the Safety Village.

The funding for Bayview Park will be used for the construction of an accessible path to allow community members of all abilities to access and enjoy the park.

Construction will commence in the middle of the year.

The total cost of the project is $950,000.

City of Casey chair of administrators Noelene Duff said that the addition of the accessible path at Bayview Park will help to further develop the reserve, while also meeting the council’s expectation that all parts of Casey are accessible for all.

“As set out in our Council Plan and other formal strategies, including our Open Space Strategy, our vision is for a city that is well connected, as well as sustainable and well equipped to manage growth,” Ms Duff said.

“The creation of this accessible path supports this vision and further cements Bayview Park as a premier destination in Casey.

“Through the provision of an accessible path, the site will also be well equipped to withstand increased visitation.”

A future stage of works will include expansion of the existing car park and additional tree planting, which are subject to future funding opportunities.

Funding granted to the Casey Safety Village will be matched by the council and used to transform the space into a road safety themed playground, which is expected to be complete in early 2022.

The facility will then be able to be freely accessed all year round.

Ms Duff welcomed the funding to transform the Casey Safety Village and said it will ensure this fantastic facility is still offering maximum community benefit.
