POLICE are seeking witnesses to a “very serious” collision involving a solo learner driver in Officer South on Saturday 9 July.
Police said the 18-year-old Cranbourne L-plater was seen driving in an erratic manner west on the Princes Freeway. He suffered facial and chest injuries after smashing into a car near the Officer South Road overpass.
He was taken to The Alfred with facial injuries, a crushed chest and a hole in his windpipe. He was intubated and was to have surgery on Monday 11 July.
A 26-year-old man from Drouin was driving the other car and sustained leg injuries but didn’t require hospital.
Police are awaiting the result of blood tests to ascertain whether the Cranbourne man was alcohol-affected.
