THREE motivated teachers from Lyndhurst Secondary College went back to being students so they could learn all about a new program the college is implementing.
Carl Simonsen, Simon Gardiner and Gavin Ellis attended the Chisholm Institute of TAFE in Dandenong last year.
They were encouraged by college principal Warren Wills’ decision to include aspects from the Certificate II Engineering Program in the school’s fitting and machining workshop.
Mr Wills’ discussions with local industry representatives indicated that there was a need for students to have some basic understanding of and ability to use hand and power tools.
Under the new program, students are taught to familiarise themselves with Occupational Health and Safety requirements in a workshop environment when using tools. They will also learn how to interpret technical drawings.
Mr Wills praised his teachers for their initiative which, he said, would benefit students and local industry.
He said local industry should get involved in the new program. They could do so by calling the college on 5996 0401.
