Young singer and songwriter Ag Johnson has released her debut single, under a program aimed at helping emerging musicians who live in outer suburban areas.

Earlier this year, the 20-year-old of Cranbourne was one of eight music artists selected to participate in The GRID Series, which stands for Grass Roots Indie Development, in the western suburbs.

The program included a weekend of one-on-one mentoring with music industry professionals and a fully-produced song recorded at Box Hill Institute’s Sing Sing East studios.

Ms Johnson’s song, titled Beauty Within, was launched in Werribee last week (October 23).

Ms Johnson collaborated with rapper NOMAD, another participant in the Grid Series, for the track.

Ms Johnson, who has previously lived in Werribee and Pakenham but now calls Cranbourne home, said she has loved music since the was a child.

“Music allows me to escape and fantasise, I find it easier to express myself through music,” she said.

Ms Johnson said she enjoyed participating in the GRID program.

“I also learnt so much about the music industry, this is my first release so I had no idea how to even prepare for it and GRID was very helpful, it’s an awesome program for upcoming artist,” she said.

In addition, Ms Johnson said she is working on her debut EP, which she described as “a mix of pop and R&B”.

“I hope to be able to inspire young boys and girls with my music and be a positive representation for my community,” she said.
