FAMILIES in Casey can do their part to help the environment thanks to the Greener Futures Program.
Funded by the State Government and delivered by Mission Australia, the Greener Futures Program provides opportunities for householders in the Casey and Greater Dandenong areas to have free products installed in their home that will help to save money on water, electricity and heating.
The program will facilitate the retrofitting of free product such as water-saving shower heads, energy saving light bulbs and draught reducing products to keep homes warmer in winter and cooler in summer.
City of Casey acting mayor Shar Balmes said the program was aimed at middle and lower income families and designed to support them in contributing to the environment while saving money on household bills.
She urged the community to get involved.
City of Casey manager Environment Nicole Wars said the program had great long-term benefits to the environment.
“Creating a greener City of Casey is important to ensuring our sustainability into the future,” Ms Wares said.
“Ours is one of the fastest growing communities in Victoria so we need to ensure that we act responsibly to preserve our environment for future generations.”
The program is expected to boost employment by creating an additional 84 part-time jobs over 26 weeks for the installation of products, with the aim to provide transitional pathways towards permanent employment in the industry.
Greener Futures is available to families who rent or own their own home and have a Centrelink Health Card, Low Income Card or Pension Concession Card.
Anyone who qualifies for the program is urged to act quickly to book a retrofit as the offer is only available for the first 5000 homes.
