A devastated Cranbourne East man has described the pain of returning home from work to find his sons pride-and-joy go-karts stolen.
Vishnu Naidoo said the go-karts, worth about $700 to $800 each, held a lot of sentimental value as he imported both from China.
“These were really close to me as I imported this myself and went through all the ups and downs of contacting the manufacturer, having then shipped out here, paying for bonded storage, and then assembling them when we eventually received them,” he said.
The go-karts, one blue and the other black were stolen from his carport in Heather Grove sometime on Monday night 13 May and Tuesday afternoon 14 May.
According to Mr Naidoo, the culprits entered through the open driveway where a Chrysler Grand Voyager was parked.
“Not sure what time this happened but I noticed them missing on Tuesday afternoon when I returned from work,” he said.
He said there was no evidence of tyre tracks on the sandy driveway.
The security lights in the carport were also disconnected with the globes thrown into the paddocks, he said.
“One of the security lights was ripped out of its mounting. It was nailed to a wooden beam – even the nail was removed.
“The two 150 watt globes were also removed,” he said. “The other security light had its globe unscrewed so it did not light up when someone moved through the carport,” he said.
Mr Naidoo said his sons were left reeling from the theft.
“These were my son’s pride and joy, not only because of the fun they had on them, but they spent an enormous amount of time fine tuning the engines, cleaning and maintaining them,” he said.
“Unfortunately I do not have CCTV footage.”
Mr Naidoo believed the theft was planned as nothing else was taken.
“I have expensive bicycles and tools in the car port but nothing else was touched. Also, they had to have had some type of big transport to take this away.
“Both go-karts have the handles chewed away by mice when they were parked in one of the sheds so this makes the more identifiable.”
Cranbourne Police are investigating.
