Diana is stepping up

Diana Gaze is determined to break her record when races up 88 floors to the top of Melbourne’s tallest building this month.

The Cranbourne resident will join about 2,500 participants who will take on the challenge of scaling 1,642 steps, during the 10th annual Eureka Climb Challenge on Sunday 25 November.

“I climb because I can help others,” Diana said. “Hopefully my small contribution can make a world of difference to someone’s life and it is a fun way to stay fit.”

Participants will aim to raise $350,000 for The Fred Hollows Foundation to end avoidable blindness.

Diana will join three other locals from Cranbourne, as well as a resident from Lyndhurst and Clyde.

“I reckon it is something to give back by doing something as simple as climbing the tower so why not?” she said.

“I think every little bit counts so that’s most important.”

Diana hopes to break her record of 15 minutes she set last year when she takes on the 297-metre skyscraper.

“When you think about it in metres it’s not that far to climb but if you’re constantly climbing up – that’s where the challenge comes in.”

Chair of The Fred Hollows Foundation John Brumby AO said the climb was a great community-spirited event where people can give the gift of restoring sight to some of the poorest people in the world.
