When Year 3 student Sophie puts her mind to something, there’s no stopping her.
The Pearcedale Primary School student, who volunteers together with her family for the Mums Supporting Families In Need, a Peninsula based charity, wanted to help more families doing it tough.
So she organised a meeting with her school principal Simon Anderson where she put forward some fundraising ideas.
“She presented information about the charity and a letter about her ideas to support them,” said Mr Anderson.
“Following this I took the letter to School Council who overwhelmingly approved the Free Dress Day.”
From the event, held on Friday 19 October, three van loads of goods and $846 in cash were donated.
Sophie also spoke at an assembly, sharing a video that she had made and introduced a guest speaker from the charity.
“Sophie’s initiative and confidence to undertake this project is a credit to her and her family,” Mr Anderson said.
“We are constantly amazed at the overwhelming generosity of our school community.”
