Gun ute pursuit ends with a bang

By Brendan Rees

Detectives have arrested a 36 year-old man following a dramatic car crash in Cranbourne last week.
Casey Crime Investigation Unit detectives say the man, of no fixed address, was arrested on Monday 12 February and was currently assisting them with their enquiries.
A firearm was also recovered during the course of the investigation.
It comes after two heavily tattooed men, believed to be carrying a firearm were on the run after overturning a car just metres from a home in Cranbourne on Friday 9 February.
Investigators believe the man was driving a stolen car that crashed into a road sign on Monahans Road just after 9am.
The man fled the crashed car before getting into another stolen car, driven by a second man, police say.
The pair, believed to have been in possession of a firearm, then rammed a police vehicle which had attempted to stop the car at the intersection of the South Gippsland Highway and Camms Road.
A short pursuit followed but was terminated shortly after for safety reasons.
There was no injuries to police members.
The two men were believed to have travelled in a black Toyota Aurion sedan with registration WPQ300, which was last seen on Narre-Warren Cranbourne Road.
Both are perceived as Caucasian in appearance and heavily tattooed. One was wearing a blue singlet.
Anyone who witnessed the incident or with any information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or submit a confidential report at www.crimestoppersvic.com.au.
