Casey’s next generation of cricket stars were treated to a master class from the best in the business of women’s cricket.
Almost 30 girls aged from 11-15 years took part part in a master class with Australian women’s cricket captain, Meg Lanning at the Carlisle Park Recreation Reserve in Cranbourne on Sunday 1 October.
The one-hour master class was followed by a question-and-answer session, and autograph session.
Ran in conjunction with Cricket Victoria, the class entailed a round robin style format where the participants learnt the skills of batting, bowling and fielding.
Acting Group manager Active Communities Callum Pattie said Ms Lanning rotated through the activities and gave the girls tips on how to master each skill.
“The participants were then treated to a Q&A session with Meg and former Australian player Mel Jones where they were given an insight into what it takes to be the best in the world,” he said.
“The masterclass was a great success, and we were proud to be able to offer this exciting opportunity for our young residents to learn from, meet and be inspired by one of the country’s best sports stars.”
“The City of Casey is committed to supporting the growth of female cricket in the region, and is proud to be partnering with Cricket Victoria to achieve this. We hope this masterclass will lead into the Stars Girls League which we’re working on creating here in the south-east.”
