A Doveton man has been caught speeding at more than three times the limit in Cranbourne West in the early hours of Monday 13 February.
Somerville Highway Patrol members clocked the black 2015 Holden GTS travelling at an alleged speed of 139km/h on the Westernport Highway before being seen on Hall Road at 188km/h in a 60km/h zone, about 2am.
The car was pulled over and immediately impounded for a period of 30 days at a cost of $1032 to the driver.
A 24-year-old man was charged with two counts of exceeding the speed limit and speeding dangerously and will face Dandenong Magistrates’ Court at a later date.
Senior Constable Paul Holtzinger said he was extremely disappointed with the behaviour.
“To be driving a high powered vehicle at triple the speed limit not only greatly increases the chances of serious injury, but places members of the public at risk,“ SC Holtzinger said.
“The message is very clear – Do not exceed the speed limit, drive to the conditions of the road and have respect for other road users.”
