Green light for sports complex

A WORLD-CLASS athletics centre is set to be built in Cranbourne East after the Federal Government announced it would commit $8.9 million to the $10.6 development plan for Casey Fields.
Casey council said every school in the municipality would be able to use the new 8-lane athletics facility at Casey Fields for their sports carnivals.
Mayor Geoff Ablett said the athletics facility would further consolidate Casey Fields as the premier leisure and sporting facility in Melbourne’s south-east.
The $5.5 million complex will seat more than 800 people and include lighting for night competition at the synthetic track. Construction will start within six months, the council said.
A $1.25 million playground that would include life-size board games and a flying fox are also part of the Casey Fields Development Project.
“Not only will our aspiring young athletes have access to a world-class athletics facility, but Casey families will also be able to enjoy a state-of-the-art regional playground that will offer something for everyone,” Cr Ablett said.
Shade structures for spectators at four of the existing ovals are also part of the redevelopment.
