BMX track shortfall reconciled

By GEORGIA WESTGARTH

UNFORESEEN costs in the building process of the Casey Fields BMX track has left Casey council with a shortfall of $628,000.
But at a recent council meeting it was resolved that the City of Casey will foot the bill through the 2015-’16 mid-year budget review or in the final reconciliation of the 2015-’16 budget.
The BMX facility already has a total budget of $2,873,000, with a successful October grant application from the State Government’s Interface Growth Fund, which required construction to be progressing by 1 April.
So far site investigation and detailed design is currently underway for the much-needed service.
Casey councillor Geoff Ablett said the BMX facility wouldn’t just benefit cyclists.
“Human powered vehicles (HPV) have grown in popularity and with outdoor lighting it means the track can service HPV activities at night,” Cr Ablett said.
“BMXs are the leading bike sales in Casey and a facility like this is supporting the demand.”
