Reading’s good impression

AUTHOR Carolyn Landon visited some reading enthusiasts at the Cranbourne Royal Botanic Gardens yesterday.
Mrs Landon, from Wonthaggi, read from her novel ‘Cups With No Handles’, and spoke to a crowd of 40 about her love for reading and writing, and some of the books that have influenced her.
‘Cups With No Handles’ is a memoir about Bette Boyanton, a woman from the Warragul area who was a feminist and political and environmental activist.
“The book is about the life of any woman who had ever been an activist in the 20th century,” Ms Landon said.
Ms Landon’s visit to the gardens is part of the State Library of Victoria’s ‘summer read’ program.
Pru Menzies from the Casey-Cardinia Library Corporation said it was a beautiful day.
“Carolyn talked about the book being about an ordinary person who lived an extraordinary life, and that is something that struck me when I was reading the book as well,” Ms Menzies said.
“People had a stroll in the gardens afterwards … it was great that the Cranbourne Royal Botanic Gardens supported the event. It was a wonderful venue.”
