Rude shock for Scouts

A THIRD Casey Scout hall has been ransacked in as many months.
The Hallam Scout Hall, on Gunns Road, was broken into around 7pm on Monday 11 May, with thieves setting of three fire extinguishers inside the facility.
It comes as the News last week reported break-ins and theft of copper piping had occurred at the Cranbourne and Devon Meadows Scout halls in recent weeks.
First Cranbourne Scouts committee Jenni Walden also voiced fears for the children’s safety after syringes and bongs were repeatedly found scattered near their hall.
“It’s disturbing given kids are in the hall at times,” she said.
“This time of year it’s dark early, and we don’t want kids going out in the backyard, but we don’t want them to be restricted.
“Most people see this as a sign of the times, unfortunately.”
Detective Senior Sergeant John Bergin said Scout halls were a “soft target” for thieves because they were rarely occupied.
