$10m street plan

SLADEN Street in Cranbourne will receive a $10.1 million makeover next year.
Roads Minister Terry Mulder and Liberal candidate for Cranbourne Geoff Ablett yesterday (Wednesday) announced a project to create two traffic lanes in each direction.
It will also include improvement works to the intersection, drainage and lighting.
“The single lane section of Sladen Street is a real bottleneck, and this project will make it safer for the community and improve access to Cranbourne,” Mr Mulder said.
“We want to ensure that everyone travelling in this area is doing so in the safest environment possible, and that is exactly what this project will deliver.
“There is no doubt that this section of road is a vital link in the south-eastern transport network, with 22,000 vehicles using it each day, making it even more important that we get on with the job and improve it.”
Mr Ablett said the project would provide significant benefits given its proximity to schools, Cranbourne Racecourse and Cranbourne Park Shopping Centre.
“The duplication of this section of road is something the community has been asking for,” he said.
VicRoads will provide the community with further information about the project in coming months.
Construction works are expected to start next year.
