Works to improve road traffic flow

THE duplication of CranbourneFrankston Road will mean a safer, quicker drive for motorists, according to Transport Minister Peter Batchelor.
Mr Batchelor was in town last week to announce the awarding of a contract to duplicate the notorious stretch of road between Warrandyte Road and Centre Road in Langwarrin.
He said the $9.3 million contract had been awarded to Akron Roads.
“The duplication will improve traffic flow in the area and will greatly improve safety, mobility and access for residents and drivers who travel between Frankston and Cranbourne,” he said.
Mr Batchelor said the works would also include the installation of traffic lights at the Quarry Road/Northgateway intersection, the Centre Road/Potts Road intersection and at the Josephine intersection.
The project is an extension of the recently completed duplication of CranbourneFrankston Road between McClelland Drive and Warrandyte Road.
“With the high rate of residential development in the area, more residents now rely on CranbourneFrankston Road as their primary route for local travel and for access to major arterial roads in the region,” Mr Batchelor said.
“The project will also include separate bicycle lanes to provide a high level of safety for cyclists and indented bus stops to improve efficiency and traffic flow,” he said.
Mr Batchelor said construction was due to commence in the coming weeks.
