Film paints good picture on climate change

LA TROBE MP Jason Wood has encouraged climate change sceptics to watch Al Gore’s film An Inconvenient Truth.
At a speech in Federal Parliament last Thursday, Mr Wood said most of his constituents shared his belief in climate change and he would continue to make their voices heard.
“If anyone doubts the film’s science, they should know that last year the Age newspaper asked seven prominent scientists, including five from the CSIRO, to mark An Inconvenient Truth’s scientific merit,” he said. “The film averaged above four-and-a-half out of five, which is a ringing endorsement of the accuracy of the film’s scientific message.”
Mr Wood said while he did not oppose ratifying the Kyoto protocol, he believed it did not go far enough.
“Australia is already on track to meet the Kyoto emission targets, and we should be doing much more,” he said. “To have any impact at all, we must involve the world’s largest emitters like the United States, China and India.”
The MP said he was also a big supporter of solar power and other renewable energies, and congratulated the residents of La Trobe who had let him know how important it was to them to use alternative measures as part of the overall energy mix.
