HAMPTON Park Senior Citizens Club members did their part for cancer research with a Biggest Afternoon Tea last Thursday.
More than 80 people turned out to enjoy Devonshire tea and scones with jam and cream to help raise money for the Cancer Council Victoria.
They raised $470 after expenses for the charity, which funds and conducts research, delivers statewide support and prevention programs, and advocates on important cancer issues.
Club secretary Kathleen March said it was an excellent day with a great crowd.
“There is hardly a family that is not touched by cancer in some form or other. I think it affects every body over Australia and all over the world,” Mrs March said. “They now have a new thing to help detect breast cancer through a blood test. It’s important we help as best we can.”
Organist Roger Marvin entertained the crowds. There were also raffles, with a $50 dinner voucher donated by Hampton Park Tavern.
Mrs March said all raffle prizes were donated by members of the club.
