Seminar for older drivers

CASEY’S older drivers are the focus in a free seminar encouraged to keep the roads safe and keep senior drivers mobile.
City of Casey community safety acting manager Caroline Bell called on not only senior drivers but also their friends and families to attend.
“Older people make an important contribution to the economic and social wellbeing of the community,” she said.
“Remaining mobile is a key factor of their sense of independence and wellbeing.”
Ms Bell said the council recognised the importance of keeping older drivers driving safely for as many years as possible.
“To do so, it is important that older drivers keep up-to-date with the latest information available.”
The seminars will cover such topics as what happens to people as they age in terms of vision, hearing, reflexes, comprehension and medical conditions, as well as issues such as complex driving situations, legal responsibilities, insurance, choosing a safe car, using alternative transport and avoiding social isolation.
The seminar will also discuss available council services and other helpful resources.
There will also be an opportunity to talk with a qualified occupational therapist.
The seminars will be organised and funded by Roadsafe, TAC and RACV in partnership with the City of Casey.
The Older Driver Safety Seminar will take place in the Council Chambers at Magid Drive, Narre Warren, from 10am to 12.30pm on Friday, 2 March, with registration and refreshments from 9.30am.
Registration is essential by contacting Customer Service on 9705 5200.
