Flags fly for footy fever

FOOTY jerseys, painted faces and team flags swarmed Kilberry Valley Primary School in anticipation of the AFL finals.
The Hampton Park school celebrated its annual Footy Day, with children turning up in the colours of their favourite footy team.
Grade five teacher Gregory Morrell said the children had the opportunity to barrack and cheer for their team by designing flags and colouring mascots. They then put on a parade in the gym while singing their team’s song. Mr Morrell said students enjoyed a sausage sizzle while colouring, handball and the longest kick competitions kept the festivities at fever pitch .with the day culminating in the traditionally fierce students versus staff footy match on the oval.
“Both teams would argue the score went their way in a tight contest but the winner on the day must be the grade sixes as the funds raised on the day will be put towards their end of year graduation,” he said.
