THE duplication of Cranbourne-Frankston Road will continue after Transport Minister Peter Batchelor this week announced further funding.
Mr Batchelor joined Cranbourne MP Jude Perera and Hastings MP Rosy Buchanan on the border of Cranbourne South on Tuesday to announce $11.4 million to continue the duplication.
“This funding means the road will now be duplicated between Centre Road and Western Port Highway,” Mr Batchelor said.
Mr Perera said the project would involve duplicating the existing road to provide two lanes in each direction.
“The project builds on and extends the benefits of the recently completed works between McClelland Drive and Warrandyte Road, and the current works to duplicate Cranbourne-Frankston Road between Warrandyte Road and Centre Road – a $15.9 million project,” he said.
Mr Perera said the $21 million project between Scott Street and Hall Road (Sladen Street) was also progressing well.
Ms Buchanan said Cranbourne-Frankston Road was an important traffic route for the entire region.
“These works will significantly improve traffic flow, safety, access and travel times for motorists travelling between the important regional centres of Cranbourne and Frankston,” she said.
“With the high rate of residential development in the area, more residents now rely on Cranbourne-Frankston Road as their primary route for local travel and access to other major arterial roads in the area.”
Detailed planning works have already commenced and a contract for works will be advertised in October.
