STAYING fit and healthy was the focus at Hampton Park Secondary College last week.
Students and teachers participated in sports, health and safety demonstrations and healthy eating as part of the school’s annual health and physical education (PE) week.
The week started with the school’s athletics day and sprinted into different activities for each year level.
The year 12s tried their luck at wheelchair basketball, the year eights and 10s took part in tabloid sports while the year sevens did Jump Rope for Heart.
There was also a staff versus student obstacle course, a Blood Bank appeal and a gymnastics day.
PE teacher Barb Cihelka said kids also had a go at some alternative sports, such as lawn bowls.
She said last Friday the school canteen was stocked only with healthy foods and students could not eat anything that wasn’t healthy.
Other activities included a table tennis tournament, a staff dart challenge and pedometer challenge.
Ms Cihelka said each school subject area was given a week a year dedicated to that field.
The Country Fire Authority also visited the school to run a seminar about driving safely and demonstrated car safety by using the jaws of life to cut through the metal on a car.
