Casey Hockey Club enjoyed its season launch last Saturday as anticipation builds for the Cannons’ 2026 season.
There was a great turnout of people at the event, with a special buzz around the club ahead of competition kicking off in just a few short weeks.
The Men’s team was promoted to the Vic League 1 competition after a strong campaign last season, while the Cannons also celebrated three junior premierships.
President Seann Rowland said the season launch was a “fantastic day” and added that it was exciting to welcome some new faces.
“It was a great day for all of our members to catch up, although pre-season training has been going for a while now,” he said.
“The weather was perfect and spirits were high, and the kids were loving the jumping castle and all of the hockey action.”
The practice matches were one of the features of the day as the women’s and men’s top sides took the field at Berwick Secondary College.
“All teams played really well for the practice matches,” Rowland said.
“It was a great chance for the coaches to run some new game plans and see where we are sitting with the season fast approaching.”
Rowland said the Cannons were hoping to continue last season’s momentum when senior matches kick off on Friday 27 March.
“We are excited for the upcoming season, we again have more teams entered in both our senior and junior competitions, we are coming off a really successful year for the club both on and off the field,” he said.
STORM SURGING INTO 2026
Cardinia Storm is also gearing up for its season launch this weekend, with a big day planned for Saturday ahead of the new season.
The day will begin at 10am when the Storm hosts a come-and-try session which is open to all ages and abilities from 10-11am, before juniors take part in a clinic and practice matches from 11am-12pm where they will get to learn tips and skills from senior players.
From 12.30-3.30pm, the senior sides will take the field for a series of practice matches against Collegians and Old Carey.
Registrations will be available on the day, along with club merchandise and equipment for new players to borrow.
The launch aims to provide a welcoming opportunity for returning members, new players and families to reconnect with the club.
