Magri provides the magic as new faces roll into Kooweerup

A new year has attracted some new faces to the South West Gippsland Midweek Bowling Group (SWGMBG) with 50 members turning out for the weekly challenge at Kooweerup Bowls Club.

A number of first-time attendees were welcomed to the fold including Allison Devine and Sue Buchan from the Cranbourne Bowls Club.

Bowlers were welcomed to Kooweerup by SWGMBG President John Nicholson while Bev and Vern Elliott organised the teams for the day.

Bowlers were then told their teams and the weekly challenge was soon underway.

A big thank you to the generous players for their donation to the Royal Children’s Hospital tin as a result of their wrong-bias bowls which is always a little embarrassing.

Despite those minor mishaps, a mild summers day – although a bit windy – saw a generally high standard of bowls across the seven rinks.

The weekly winners on a score of 35 were Louis Magri (S), Marg Hoy (3) and Garry McAllister (L).

Runners up on a score of 34 were Bill Sherriff (S), Bobby Arnold (L), Alex Martin (2) and Steve Muhi (3).

Best One game winner, on a countback, with a score of 18 were Maggie Prosser (L), Peter McWilliams (2), Steve Edge (S) and Amanda Bozelle (3).

A big thank you goes to Kooweerup President Tim Katz for setting up the green and manning the bar and to Maggie Prosser for looking after the kitchen and cleaning up afterwards.

This week, Thursday 29 January, the group will be meeting at Lang Lang Bowls Club to once again enjoy a great day of social bowls.

Please be on site by 10am to allow time to prepare the teams.

Unfortunately, with numbers generally reaching our capacity, we will have to be strict on a 10am cut-off time.

However, we look forward to having a good attendance again this week.
