Best of the Bulldogs breed

It was a massive day at Bunyip on Saturday with the Bulldogs hosting a special Past Players Day that included the announcement of the club’s best team from 2003 to 2022.

As expected the 2012 premiership team dominated selection, with 16 players from the Bulldogs most recent success being chosen in the 22-man squad.

Coach Callum Pattie and captain Brad Walker played key roles in that 2012 triumph, alongside Nathan Lieshout, Brent Heus, Jack Fitzpatrick, Brad Wolfe, Marc Rotunno, Dean Bassed, Jeb McLeod, Stewy Edwards, Michael Laszczyk, Michael Whyte, Zac Vansittart, Ben Jostlear, Andy Henwood and Mitch Davies.

AFL premiership winner Shane Mumford adds a touch of class in the ruck, winning his premiership with Sydney – also in 2012 – while centreman Michael Whyte earned the honour of vice-captain.

Bunyip’s 2012 grand final victory over Garfield was a thrilling affair, with the Bulldogs kicking six goals to none in the final term to overturn a seven-point deficit at three-quarter time.

An auction was also held on Saturday to raise funds for 2012 premiership player Stewy Edwards, who is currently battling cancer.

Via donations and purchasing of memorabilia, the day raised more than $10,000 to give the club stalwart a kick along.
