Casey Cannons recorded its biggest win of the season in the Men’s Vic League (MVL2) competition as it thumped Knox 11-1.
Tristan Chaffey’s consistency this season has been ultra-impressive and the star scorer led from the front again, netting five goals.
He has been held scoreless just once this season and has scored a total of 27 goals – 15 more than his nearest opponent.
This match can only be described as a bloodbath, as the Cannons fired on all cylinders to maintain top spot on the ladder.
Bryan Young also had a game to remember with two goals, while Matthew Light, Craig Moore, David Noney and Joshua Watson all had an offensive impact.
Casey will back itself to take down Brunswick this weekend and make it 11 wins in 12 matches.
The MVL2 Reserves side reached the same outcome, but it wasn’t without a battle as the side prevailed over Knox 1-0.
Harry Coster is making a name for himself and scoring clutch goals is part of that reputation, as he once again scored the first and only goal of the match.
To close out the men’s results, Casey suffered two narrow losses with the Metro 2 South side falling short 1-0 against Monash, and the Pennant D South East team losing 2-0 at the hands of the Bayside Powerhouse Saints.
After last week’s loss against the top side, the Women’s Vic League (WVL1) team bounced back with a crucial 4-2 win against Yarra Hockey Club.
The Cannons had four goal scorers in the victory with Mikayla McDonald, Charlotte Smith, Samantha Wagg and Samantha Dobrich all finding the back of the net.
It was an important win for Casey who is fourth on the ladder, while Yarra sits in fifth position.
The elation of victory was unfortunately short-lived in the women’s grades, as no other sides managed to win their matches.
The WVL1 Reserves clash between Casey and Yarra was as close as can be, with the scoreboard reading 0-apiece at the end of the game.
It was a good battle between the two sides, as both goalkeepers held firm to repel any attacking plays.
It is the first time the Cannons side has drawn a game this season, however Yarra has recorded four draws this season.
The Women’s Pennant E South East team fell short 3-1 against the Saints, despite a captain’s goal from Fiona Young in a bid to inspire her team.
Goalkeeper Sarah Wheeler did her best, but Bayside Powerhouse generated too many effective attacking plays and got a few past her to register a winning score.
In the Women’s Metro 1 South competition, the Cannons were no match for Monash as they went down 5-2.
Matilda Chaffey and Karen Martz were the shining lights for Casey, both scoring brilliant goals in the three-goal loss.
Casey Cannons will look to emulate the form of their top sides this weekend, in the hope of producing a few more wins.
