Elliott in elite form in last autumn challenge before winter

Members of the South West Gippsland Midweek Bowling Group came together for their last weekly challenge in autumn with 50 players taking part in the weekly challenge.

Each week, members turn up and teams are drawn randomly, which promotes a great spirt and friendly environment amongst all the players.

A lovely cold morning greeted our family of bowlers at San Remo to fight it out for the weekly challenge.

Bowlers were welcomed to the club by the group’s esteemed president John, while Rob and Claire arranged the teams.

Once the teams were arranged, players strolled on to the green to begin the team challenge.

And it was immediately clear that it was going to be a hard day with such great teams on the green.

As usual, there was plenty of laughter and friendly banter between the players and some brilliant bowls being played.

There were only a couple of wrong-bias bowls today, but it all helps to fill the Royal Children’s Hospital tin.

As usual we can only have one winner and this week’s well-deserved winners on 34 points were Vern Elliott (S), Sue Wright (2), Michael Saunders (3) and Aggie Gratton (L).

Runners up on a score of 33 points were Peter Taylor (L), David Talbot (3) and Peter Gratton (S).

Best One Game winners on a score of 18 were Tony Heppleston (S), Gwen Jeffrey (2), Richard Kerr (L) and Steve Edge (3).

Many thanks to today’s volunteers, including Mark in the bar as well as Claire and John in the kitchen.

This Thursday, June 5, we will be meeting at Kooweerup as the club returns to the fold following their recent rebuild of the club house.

We hope to have a full house to welcome them back.

We will meet at 10am to allow time to prepare the teams prior to our 10:30am start.

Please, be on time as the numbers are getting quite high and if you are in after the books are full then you may have to miss out.

Meanwhile, until then, have fun and stay safe.
