Everyone a winner as midweek bowlers sign off on the year

It was time to sign off on another fantastic year for the South West Gippsland Midweek Bowling Group when 55 players turned up for the last game of the year at Corinella Bowls Club.

Once again it was a terrific environment to be a part of as the players battled it out for team of the week.

We were signed in by Pauline and John as Peter and Claire prepared the teams.

The day was a perfect one for our bowlers with temperatures in the mid-twenties and reasonably overcast for a great part of the day.

The quality of the bowling was once again excellent.

There were one or two wrong bias shots but that did not detract from the overall quality of play.

Being the final days play for the year we do not have any prize winners as the format was altered somewhat and this resulted in everyone being winners.

I say this because our administrators arranged a free-days play and also supplied a free lunch for our players as well as an afternoon tea following the days games.

Helen and Jill worked feverishly to keep everyone fed with what can only be described as a feast.

Chris and Dave looked after our thirsty drinkers which was a busy job today.

I also want to thank Phil for setting up the green for today’s games as well as all the players who helped clean up the hall as well as the kitchen.

Phil and all the volunteers are so much appreciated and if we forget to mention their wonderful assistance from time to time, all I can do is apologise.

So, we are taking a few weeks off for Christmas but will be returning on Thursday 9 January at Loch and District Bowls club to once again begin our weekly challenge for our members.

Meanwhile, we wish all our players great days on Saturday and Tuesday with their pennant teams.

We would also like to wish all our players and their families health, happiness, peace and prosperity this Christmas and in the coming New Year.

Until next year have fun and stay safe.
