It was another brilliant day for members of the South West Gippsland Midweek Bowling Group with 37 of the family descending on the San Remo Bowls Club to take part in the weekly challenge.

The weather was a bit cool, but not cold, and the wind was pretty much non-existent (which was a bit of a surprise at San Remo).

We were welcomed to the clubhouse by Pauline and John with Peter busily preparing the teams.

Some of our female players were missing as they were playing in local Women’s Invitational Events and we hope they all had plenty of success.

Once the teams were declared, the fight was on to become a member of the team of the week.

The opposition was, as always, awesome.

As usual there was a reasonable amount of friendly banter and quite a bit of laughter from all around the green.

Wrong bias shots were rare on the day, which means our donation to the Royal Children’s Hospital appeal will need to improve over the coming weeks.

As the day progressed, the weather warmed up enough for quite a few coats to be discarded, but the quality of the bowling only increased as the day went on.

Anyway, as always we have winners and others, and this week’s winners on a score of 37 were Rob Jeffrey (3), Peter Thorley (L) and Mick Walton (S).

Runners up on a score of 33 points were Laurie Bell (3), Dennis Talbot (S), Pauline McWilliams (Co-second), Ron Hughes (L) and Lindsay Russell (Co-second).

Best One Game winners on 18 points were Frank D’Unienville (2), Max Summers (3), Mark Hanrahan (S) and Lou Capsalis (L).

A big thank you to Gwen and John who did so much work in the kitchen with the difficult (today only) washing machine.

Also thanks to Rob behind the bar, because it’s these selfless people who keep our great family coming back for more each week.

Next week we will be heading to Loch to again fight it out for team of the week.

In the meantime I wish all our players lots of luck with their respective pennant matches this coming week.

Until next week…have fun and stay safe.
