Members of the South West Gippsland Midweek Bowling Group were out in force on Thursday with 51 players turning up at Corinella Bowls Club to take part in the weekly challenge.

It was a beautiful day; as summer seems to be pushing winter aside for all our bowlers around the state.

We were all greeted once again by Pauline and John as Peter arranged the teams.

It is just so exciting to play each week as part of a team made up from random players.

The green was in excellent condition but, with the wind blowing, it was definitely a challenge for many players.

A few of our intrepid members were in a charitable mood as can be seen by the swelling jar of coins for the Royal Children’s Hospital appeal in a few months.

A donation is made for every wrong bias bowl.

As usual there was lots of laughter and friendly banter across the rinks.

It really is a great event each week, with so many great friendships made with all the players.

This week’s winners on 32 points were Shirl Corcoran (3), Craig Brown (S), Peter McWilliams (2) and Bob Arnold (L).

Runners up on a score of 30 were Cheryl Floyd (L), Rob Jefferey (3), Max Williams (2) and John Nicholson (S).

Best One Game winners for the day, on a score of 20, were Phil Wright (3) Margaret McConville (L), Peter Gratton (S) and Chris Coulson (2).

Thank you to Phil and all the Corinella members for all the work to set up and clean up as well as looking after the kitchen and bar.

As I’ve said before, these volunteers keep us going week after week.

This Thursday we will be meeting at San Remo to once again fight it out in the hope of being part of the winning teams.

So please remember, be on site by 10am or maybe miss out on a great day’s play.

This weekend marks the beginning of the 2024/25 pennant season, and all our members wish bowlers everywhere good luck and we hope your club wins.

Meanwhile, not all our members will be winners this week, but, win or lose, keep your heads held high.

Till next week, stay safe and have fun.
