Threatening skies couldn’t dampen the spirit of 31 members of the South West Gippsland Midweek Bowling Group from descending on Lang Lang last week.

Following a wet winter week of terrible weather, the day started off very threatening but held throughout as bowlers braved the elements to once again fight it out for team of the week.

There was no rain and virtually no wind; it was a bit cold but it was a great day overall.

The green was in excellent condition but it still surprised a few players who had some trouble with it.

We were all welcomed to Lang Lang by Pauline and John who signed us in, before Peter and David arranged the teams and completed the scoring at the end of play.

Marianne and Colin looked after our thirsty bowlers when needed.

There were one or two wrong-bias bowls today, but it’s great to see the Royal Children’s Hospital tin filling up through the year.

But, overall, the quality of bowls was once again first rate.

As always there can only be one winner and this week’s winners on 37 points were Mark Hanrahan (S), Laurie Bell (3), Brenda Moloney (2) and Aggie Gratton (L).

Runners up on 33 points were Nick Arnold (S), Derek Fenn (3) and Peter McWilliams (L).

Best One Game winners on 22 points were Steve Edge (S), Wendy Pownall (3), David Talbot (2) and Alan Weeden (L).

A big thank you goes to Vern for clearing the green and also to Marianne, Colin and Laurie for kitchen duty and cleaning up after the game.

For anyone I overlooked, also a big thank you.

This week we will be meeting at San Remo as, unfortunately, Corinella will have no electricity for the day.

We look forward to seeing everyone by 10am to allow for a 10.30am start of play.

Until then stay safe and have fun.
