Holt kicks 13 in big Lang Lang win

A 13-goal haul to Lang Lang’s Marc Holt has seen the Tigers to a comprehensive 22.13 145 to 6.4 40 victory over the winless Catani.

Holt had 4.3 by quarter time, with an eight goal opening term setting the game up for the visitors at Taplins Road, with the 1300-goal hero winding back the clock with a series of big grabs and goals.

He waxed well with fellow recruit Bradley Clark to keep Lang Lang undefeated and with a significant percentage buffer on top of the Ellinbank District Football League (EDFL) ladder.

Fellow known goalscorer Jason Wells also went big for Longwarry, kicking nine goals as the Crows overcame a doughty Poowong 17.8 110 to 15.8 98.

Longwarry led by 36 points early in the second quarter, but that was trimmed to just five at the main break in a seven-goal-to-three second quarter, with the ultra experienced Poowong skipper Jack Hazendonk leading the fightback.

Poowong pressed hard and briefly found the lead in the third quarter, before Jason Wells stabilised, kicking four goals in the quarter to give them a 10-point three-quarter-time buffer.

Fintan Fox (two), Wells and Marko Kulas both kicked important stabilisers in the last quarter in the tight high-scoring win.

It continues a frustrating trend of competitive losses to start the season for the 1-3 Poowong, whose average losing margin is 17 points.

Ellinbank got the early jump on Trafalgar, kicking the first four goals of the game, a margin which never realistically looked like being trimmed.

Skipper Bryce Joyce and Drouin recruit Rhys Slater helped them to a 10.15 75 to 5.6 36 victory.

Chris Urie and Kody Wilson combined for 11 goals to lead Neerim South to a 19.16 130 to 5.1 31 win over Nyora.

Youngster Patrick Ireland shone for Buln Buln, kicking nine goals in the Lyrebirds 16.14 110 to 5.3 33 victory over Yarragon, set up by an early eight-goal blitz.

Ladder: Lang Lang 16, Buln Buln 12, Neerim South 12, Longwarry 12, Nilma Darnum 8, Ellinbank 8, Poowong 4, Trafalgar 4, Yarragon 4, Catani 0, Nyora 0.

Fixture: Ellinbank v Nyora, Neerim South v Longwarry, Poowong v Catani, Lang Lang v Nilma Darnum, Buln Buln v Trafalgar.
