Nar Nar Goon remains one of four undefeated teams in WGFNC A Grade after the Goon overcame a brave challenge from Bunyip; 41-28 on Saturday.
After surviving a one-goal thriller against Phillip Island in round one, the Goon was eager to make its mark early but ran into some stern resistance from the hosts.
With Simone Davis (GS) finding her range in the first quarter, Bunyip took it up to the Goon, with Ally Johnson (C), Aimee Wright (WA) and Fiona Burns (GA) all having an impact for the Bulldogs.
But the Goon repelled the Bulldogs best work, leading 12-10 at the first break, before putting its foot down in the second.
Taylah Boatwood (GK) and Taylah Harris (GD) tightened things up in defence, while the inclusion of Meaghan Winter (C) through the midcourt sparked the visitors into action.
Winter combined brilliantly with Olivia Hamilton (WA) and Chantelle Dale (WD), while Darcy Utber (GA) and Steph Lee (GS) helped the Goon to a six-goal lead at half time.
Bunyip once again matched motors in the third, before the Goon finished with a 9-4 final term to chalk up a 13-goal victory.
Cora Lynn has continued its impressive start to the season with a comprehensive 55-36 triumph over Phillip Island at Cowes.
The Cobras have raised some eyebrows this year, competing well with IK in round one before overcoming Tooradin-Dalmore in round two.
Those performances have now been confirmed as ‘real’ after the Cobras dominated this one from the outset.
With Gemma Stacey (GS) and Brooke Abu-Jaber (GA) combining wonderfully well in the circle, the Cobras scored 15-6 in the opening stanza and backed that up with a 15-7 second term.
Leading 30-13 at half-time the Cobras hit a flat spot in the third, but regained their composure to finish with a 19-11 final burst.
Danielle Cameron (GK) was once again superb for the Cobras in defence, while Paige Brooks-MacMillan (WD) provided plenty of drive from defence.
Perennial-powerhouse Tooradin-Dalmore is still searching for its first win of the season after the Seagulls went down 44-43 to Kilcunda-Bass at Tooradin.
Scores were locked at 14 each at quarter time, before the Gulls went to sleep in the second, losing the second term by 11 goals to six.
The teams once again locked away the third, leaving the Panthers five goals ahead with a quarter left to play.
The Gulls made some moves at the final break, with Jess Maher moving to Wing Defence, and Abbey Howes returning to Centre, and the moves paid off – with the Gulls winning their only quarter for the match.
They outscored the Panthers 12-8 in the final term, to fall short by one.
Kacey Maund (C), Grace Rand (WA) and Kasey Gambetta (WD) set the game up for the Panthers, while Jemma Osborne (GS) had a steady hand when the game was on the line late.
Alex Maher (GS) scored 33 of the 43 goals for Tooradin.
In other games this week, Korumburra-Bena proved too strong for Warragul Industrials, winning 65-49 at Western Park, while Dalyston continued its undefeated start to the season with a 59-30 win over Garfield.
And Inverloch-Kongwak has begun its quest for three-consecutive premierships in fine style, making it three on the bounce with a 52-32 victory over Kooweerup.
The Sea Eagles were in total control for three quarters, with Millie Sadler (GK) and Renee Pilkington (GD) controlling the defensive circle, while Kelsey Buxton (C) and Lanni Pryor (WA) had the ball on a string through the midcourt.
The Demons were brave throughout, and gave a sign of their promise with a 12-10 victory in the third term.
Kooweerup players like Ash Murphy (GA), Chantelle Stokkel (WD), Talia Charalambides (GD) and Claise Janssen (WA) will take some confidence from that effort when they make the short trip to Nar Nar Goon this Saturday.
