Bowlers from the South West Gippsland Midweek Bowling Group converged en-masse at the Lang Lang Bowls Club on Thursday for the final game of 2023.
What a day it was…and what a year it has been.
We were greeted by Marianne as usual who always does a great job in looking after us.
Peter, Pauline and John signed us all in and arranged the teams while we all mingled and chatted about all things in general.
We then took to the green to, once again, fight it out for team of the day.
But today was going to be slightly different.
Yes, there was the usual laughter and the usual sledging of our friends.
But today, unknown to most of us, there was never going to be just one team win.
We were extremely happy, come lunch break, to be the recipients of a wonderful lunch compliments of our Committee of Management following such a good year.
At this point we just have to thank Helen, Chloe and Jill for such a magnificent lunch.
I know we thanked you on the day, but I have to thank you again.
It was a lovely treat.
We also want to thank the Committee once again for arranging the lunch as well as the wonderful free raffle that was held during lunch, it was a pleasure to see so many happy winners.
Out we went following lunch to fight it out again for another 12 ends.
Following the second game we were once again the recipients of an unexpected afternoon snack from Helen, Chloe and Jill.
With hot party pies, sausage rolls, sandwiches and so many wonderful deserts, too many to name.
So, as I said above, there was no one-team winner.
On this day, we were all winners.
So, unlike every other week, there is no winning team, no runners-up and no best one game.
Thank you also to those who helped to make the day such a success behind the scenes,
A special thank you goes out to Bev, Vicki and Vern.
We will be back early in the new year to once again take up bowls and fight it out over and over again.
To all our players, committee members, volunteers and helpers, have a very Merry Christmas as well as a prosperous and safe New Year.
See you next year.
